Building Youth Voices Media Created by Youth For Youth

Page history last edited by Richard Beach 1 year, 1 month ago

The Youth Think Climate (YTC) Magazine is a digital, youth-led describe publication how they solicit/edit content from their youth contributors. dedicated to showcasing art in a variety of mediums, created by young people regarding their thoughts and experiences on the climate crisis. In general, coverage of the climate crisis lacks youth voice and perspectives. Considering the variation in school requirements on teaching climate science, many young people are denied opportunities to express their feelings, perceptions, and anxieties of the crisis. This magazine was formed as a way to build a community within the climate movement in which all young people have a space to self-express, as well as build confidence in the belief that they themselves can make a difference.

With the help of Action for the Climate Emergency, a national non-profit, YTC requests submissions from youth in their global network. YTC encourages young people to think about and incorporate selected themes into their work, such as climate denial and climate justice. All submissions are original pieces ranging from paintings to essays to music, from youth across the US and thus far, 9 countries.

Our magazine editors place emphasis on storytelling and personal narratives, which bring in fresh, relatable perspectives and encourage youth to reflect on how the climate crisis affects them on a personal level. For our readers as well as our artists, using your voice or hearing from your peers can be a powerful way to fight feelings of isolation and anxiety. When people read about their peers’ experiences, they may also be motivated to seek change.
